A family owned and operated business, the Tucker’s have been involved in aviation for over 35 years. Established as Promair in the late 80’s and later formed into Tasfast Airfreight to provide an overnight freight service between Tasmania and the mainland. In 2004 driven by an increase in demand for passenger charter, Vortex Air was born and now flies upwards of 4000 passengers per annum, with a 100% accident-free safety record.


Specialising in Golf Packages, Vortex Air eliminates the logistical nightmare of commercial airlines and on-ground transfers. Set a departure time to suit your requirements and Vortex will handle every element of your trip, from car hire and bus transfers, to organising golf tee off times and planning your accommodation.


Vortex Air only employ and train the best. Through our sister company Vortex Air – Elite Training Academy; we are able to train and prepare our pilots for all flying conditions and situations. They then gain the many hours needed as pilot-in-command through our freight arm Tasfast Airfreight before we allow them to command our passenger aircraft.


Bass Strait Golf utilises the PC12, a corporate single engine aircraft suitable for 8 passengers and capable of flying 420kmph. The single engine Cessna Caravan, one of the most reliable and popular aircraft in the world, that can easily accommodate 12 golfers with their own bags. And the Piper Chieftain, a twin engine capable of flying 350km and is the economical charter option capable of lifting 8 passengers with golf club pencil bags.

What's the difference between Air Charter & a Commercial Airline?
Air charter is the business of renting an entire aircraft i.e., chartering) as opposed to individual aircraft seats (i.e., purchasing a ticket through a traditional airline). While the airlines specialise in selling transportation by the seat, Vortex Air focus on individual private aircraft and itineraries, urgent or time-sensitive cargo, air ambulance and any other form of ad hoc air transportation.
Do I have to pay for Car Parking & is it Secure?
Moorabbin Airport is a security controlled airport, and Vortex Air provide Free Car parking out the front of our building.
How much luggage can I take?
Generally each passenger may take between 5-10 kgs of luggage, however this may vary depending on the amount of passengers and desired destination. Please enquire for an exact amount.
Are meals included with any of the Packages?
No, meals are generally not included in your Bass Strait Golf charter package. However if you opt to choose the Luxury Bass Strait Triangle it is all-inclusive and meals will be provided.
How big is the Aircraft?

Vortex Air operate a 12 Seater ‘Cessna Caravan’, a fleet of 9 Seater ‘Piper Chieftains’ and a 5 Seater ‘Beechcraft Baron’. for more information on our available aircraft please click here.

Does the Aircraft have 2 engines?
The Cessna Grand Caravan has 1 Engine, all other aircraft currently in operation with Vortex Air have 2 engines.
Will there be 2 Pilots flying the Aircraft?
No, when flying with Vortex Air you will most likely only have one pilot in-command. (In some cases Vortex Air will need to ferry an extra pilot.
How experienced is the Pilot?

Vortex Air Pilots are trained in-house and are matured through our sister company Tasfast. They fly our multi-engine freighters day and night in all weather conditions. Only then will they be checked to line to fly our passenger charters.

How early do i need to check-in?
15-30 Minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Please note: The lounge may not be open if you arrive over an hour early.
